North Mountain Cabin has captured the heart and attention of so many via its Instagram feed that showcased the gut renovation undertaken in the past year with friends, family, and a lot of other helpers to bring this piece of 1970s stylistic perfection up to modern-day standards. It's on just under acre of land (helping to keep down taxes!), but the pool essentially backs up to a cliff that goes down to a creek - and you are looking across to the side of the Shawangunk mountains. Total privacy. And when you're sitting in that incredible pool (recently converted to saline) or enjoying the hot tub in winter, just able to hear the sound of the creek below, you will feel 100% enveloped by nature. The interior of the house is also laid out to be able to create private spaces to sleep or hang out with a master suite on the main floor, an incredible loft bedroom looking out over the cathedral ceilings of the living room and backing up to it's own mini-A-frame window, and a fully finished basement with its own entrance, woodstove, and full bathroom. In addition to a careful cosmetic transformation that kept the character of the original home, improvements include: new electrical work in every room in the home, new industrial sized mini split for heating and air conditioning in the main room, new whole house water treatment system, new washer/dryer, new sections of the roof, and the entire downstairs has new plumbing and framing. The road and the house feel more rural and rugged than you'd expect being only 12 minutes to the amenities of New Paltz (including the bus to NYC), but because it's literally on the side of the mountain, it's a 3-minute drive to the ever popular Mountain Brauhaus, under 15 minutes to drive to thousands of acres of public trails and climbing at the Mohonk Preserve or Minnewaska State Park, and around 20 to Kerhonkson and Accord on the other side of the range.
